• Do some of the letters on the note look out of place? Can you find what those letters are trying to tell you?

  • It looks like the odd letters on the note say:

“WHAT IS LEFT BEHIND ON THE NOTEPAD.”

Hmm… is there a notepad to investigate?

  • The hidden message on the note wondered about what was left behind. But the notepad is blank!

What would be a way to see what’s left behind?

  • There seems to be some indents on the notepad. The person writing on the sheet on top of it must have been pressing really hard on the pencil.

Is there a way to recreate what was written?

  • Try gently rubbing the notepad with a pencil. What can you see?

  • The indents in the notepad that were left behind seem to say:

    If A = 1: B = _ , O = _

    If S = 1: G = _ , N = _

    If I = 1: H = _ , M = _

    If D = 1: F = _ , Q = _

    If B = 1: I = _ , K = _

  • Hmm… this doesn’t seem like a normal pocket watch. Try assembling it like the diagram it came with. Try to turn the wheels to match the hint left behind on the notepad.

  • Each line on the notepad seems to require a different setting of what letter = 1 to find the other letter/number combinations.

  • Example: Spin the wheels so that A = 1 like on the first line on the notepad. What number matches to B and O? Now try setting it so that S = 1. What numbers match G and N?

(We recommend writing down both letter and number!)

  • For each line on the notepad, the wheels are set a different wall. This means:

    When A = 1: B = 15 and O = 9

    When S = 1: G = 12 and N = 11

    When I - 1: H = 14 and M = 6

    When D =1: F = 16 and Q = 3

    When B = 1: I = 19 and K = 7

  • The number and letter combinations from the pocket “watch” look like they might help find which locations are the most important

  • There must be some reason those letter/number combinations were given in pairs…

Maybe so you can connect them together?

  • Try connecting both of the locations for each line on the notepad together. Where to they all pass through?

(Example: Connect the icon for the B15 location and the one for the O9 location. A straight edge and pencil might help!)

  • Each pair of locations seem to pass through one spot: the Watchtower (J11)!

That must be where their headquarters are!
